Karafil crosses the borders into Greece with his parents, seeking a better life. The only possession he brings is a small sapling from their yard, his only true ‘friend.’ As they cross the borders, Karafil is forced to abandon the sapling in a forest they traverse. Sixty years later, haunted by a life in the margins, Karafil returns to the forest to seek his lost friend.
